Click on Radial Images to view some images from my vertical antenna setup. It is a 4BTV Husler for 10, 15, 20, and 40 meters. I'm in a deed restricted community so the less visible the better. Plus I wanted to keep the wife happy so the radials are buried.
I followed the directions from other HAMs and mowed the grass short before I got started. For the first radial I used a shovel to dig a trench. For the remainder I used the gas edger. It was MUCH faster. I buried each wire, (14 GA insulated, ($20 at Lowe's) with bagged soil.
I connected the radials together with a bus bar for a circuit breaker. I used the 5 inch ones because of my limited space. I would recommend the 10 inch ones for people with more space. After searching the shelves at Lowe's I found the 'L' brackets ($2) in the door hinges isle. A couple of holes drilled on the ends of the buses and they attached with ease. Just a quick note, the images of the radials connected to the bus bars do not have the wires stripped. I placed the radials first, to make sure I had them where I wanted and then came back through and stripped and connected them. This worked well for me, but it was time consuming. The majority of this was slow to begin with because it was done with one hand, I had broken my left wrist so it slowed me down some.
